Notes for 1972 Short Course on Remote Sensing Technology and Applications (622 pages)

LARS Minicourses

Researchers at LARS developed this mini-course series on the fundamentals of remote sensing between 1976 and 1985. They therefore represent technology during this time period. Each minicourse contains a study guide, a set of slides, and an audio tape. Students are able to design their own learning programs by selecting from among the minicourses and progress at their own rate. The audio cassette tapes have been converted to mp3 audio files. A tone on the audio file indicates that one is to advance to the next slide. The web page is organized for each mini-course so that one can view the study guide in one tab and the audio & slides in another tab. Each browser handles the imbedded pdf files differently; some have controls with buttons to advance to the next pages while for others you have to scroll. Note that this setup does not work in IOS devices and as I read also not in Android devices. But one can download the pdfs in the device in a separate page. One just cannot tab back and forth.

The study guides, slide sets, and audio files are available online with permission from the Purdue Research Foundation and from the International Institute for Aerial Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC) (for 'Selecting Landsat Imagery' and 'Photogeology').

LARS Video Tape Series for Quantitative Analysis of Remote Sensing Data

Remote sensing helps provide up-to-date information critical to the management of earth resources on a regional, national, and international level. As data collection and communication techniques are refined, as computational and analysis technologies evolve, and as sophisticated output devices become more economical, remote sensing will play an ever larger role as a source of information. A series of video tapes were developed to provide an 'Introduction to Quantitative Analysis of Remote Sensing Data' during the early 1980's.

The videotape series was prepared for graduate and advanced undergraduate students and professionals new to the field of remote sensing. Before viewing the tapes, one should already have a basic understanding of remote sensing and its related technology, such as can be gained through a number of introductory texts or through studying selected minicourses in the series above (Purdue University, 1976, 1980). The following links provide one with the viewing notes which go with the video tapes. The video tapes were not found in the LARS archives.
